Lucia Raatma has been involved in print and online publications for more than twenty years. She has worked full-time at companies such as G. P. Putnam's Sons and Reader's Digest, copy editing both fiction and nonfiction. Lucia does freelance copy editing for Penguin Random House (the Riverhead, Tarcher, and Putnam imprints) and other publishing houses. She also writes children's books for educational publishers such as Capstone Press and Scholastic.
Born Lucia Tarbox in Georgetown, South Carolina, she grew up on the grounds of Brookgreen Gardens, an outdoor sculpture garden and wildlife park. Lucia earned a B.A. in English from the University of South Carolina, then went on to earn an M.A. in cinema studies from New York University.
After living in New York for a couple of decades, she now makes her home in the Tampa Bay area with her husband and their two children, Lizzie and Alex, as well as a sweet rescue dog named Phoebe (below).
